Intermediate Art
In these classes for the teens we dive deeper into deciphering what we are seeing. Retraining our brains to see what is there, not what we think is there. A lot more emphasis on drawing and getting our shapes and spacing right. We also try our hand at conceptual art, expressing an idea using our own creativity and learned skills. Class is held Thursday nights 5:00-6:30pm . The cost of attendance is $20/session, paid a month at a time at the beginning of the month. Class is a monthly commitment.
Does your charter school offer financial assistance towards specialty classes?
If your 7th-12th grade student attends REACH Rivers Edge Charter School, you will need to speak with the front desk to enroll them prior to them showing up to class.
Most local charter schools will either pay or reimburse you for your child’s attendance to my class. Check with them to see if I am one of their approved vendors. If not contact me and we work on getting it set up.

Classes are available to all kids K - 12th. Signing up for one of the classes or painting events is super easy.
You can pay online with your card when you register, or register without paying and bring cash to class the first day. I also accept Venmo, you can find the QR code for that at the bottom of the page. Just call, text, or email me to let me know to expect your student.
If your student attends REACH, please enroll here without paying as the school may likely handle it.
Spots are limited, and this will help me know how many students to prepare for.
Please enroll ahead of time.
Adult Painting Class
Weekly adult painting class available to anyone over 18. $20/session if you bring your own paints and brushes.
(Time and Day to be determined.) We generally paint on 11X14 stretched canvas.
I will supply the canvases for no extra charge.
My paints and brushes will also be available for you to use for an additional $5 for the session. I would however recommend you eventually bring your own supplies with you, it will help you to have your favorite brushes to use, rather than my classroom ones. (Kids are hard on brushes) This also allows you to work on your painting at home as well.
In these classes I will paint right along with you, offering you guidance and support from start to finish. We will all be using the same reference photo, where we can try to recreate the techniques used in the original, and practice our color matching.
Because this class will be held in the REACH charter school, there is no alcohol permitted in the building. You are welcome to bring snacks and non-alcoholic drinks if you’d like.
Public painting events are currently on hold, however I am still booking private group events.
Contact me if interested.
Thank you for your patience

I don’t have to tell you we are living in difficult times. Our kids are our future. The epidemic of youth depression and suicide is unprecedented. My mission is to use art to give our kids a healthy and safe outlet to express themselves. Much of our emotion, feelings and pain dwells inside us, eating us up, until we can release it. I’m seeing kids looking at life through a filter of despair, self hatred, trauma, and confusion. I encourage my students to use their emotions to make their art, and to use their art to release their emotions. It’s healthy, meaningful, and doesn’t hurt anybody. For every moment a kid has their nose in their sketchbook, it isn’t getting into trouble.
The hard part is keeping it all going. The classrooms, the supplies, the venues, the lesson planning… it all takes time and money. Often where I teach there is little to no budget for these things. Let’s face it, it is very difficult to make art with no art supplies. Your donation goes directly to the items required for our kids to expand their creativity. I’d much rather see our future generations seeing the world around them with amazement, wonder and intrigue as they capture all of God’s beautiful creation through the eyes of an artist.
Meet the Instructor
Rocky Lawrence
Hello! My name is Rocky Lawrence. I was born and raised in Grants Pass, Oregon.
I am happily married to an amazing fella, and have 3 terrific kids. My favorite things to do are gardening, reading, learning, dancing, singing, of course making art.
Looking back, it was my very special 4th grade teacher that changed the way I looked at the world. This amazing teacher showed the class some of his own amazing artwork. Then he showed the class one-point perspective. What a game changer. It was like a switch clicked on for me, like I was seeing things through a new set of eyes. It was also when I learned what the ripple effects of one good teacher’s passion could bring to a students life. From then on, I lived life with an artistic flair. Art has since slipped into every part of my life, and has helped me achieve so much.
Currently, I am continuing my own education, learning more advanced techniques and styles. At the same time I teach visual art to students ranging from homeschool, public, charter and private schools. The scope of my classes range from children's beginner classes to adult advanced painting classes.
Having this opportunity to gain a unique insight into the children's lives and thought process has given me an understanding that for some, it’s about the art, but for others, it’s about the calming and expressive process. I’ve seen a lot of kids lately with a bleak outlook on life. So I’m making it my mission to show the kids they can use art as a healthy and safe outlet to express themselves. I’d much rather our future generations see the world around them with amazement, wonder and intrigue as they capture all of God’s beautiful creation through the eyes of an artist.
I am currently holding weekly classes, as well as periodically some painting events (paint and sip style). You can also book a private party, or private lessons with me.
I do also sell my own work, which varies between oil and acrylic paintings and wood burnings. I also will sometimes take commission pieces.
